Dortmund is home to many cultural and educational institutions, including the
TU Dortmund University and
Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts,
International School of Management and other educational, cultural and administrative
facilities with over 55,000 students, many museums, such as
Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte,
German Football Museum, as well as theatres and music venues like the
Konzerthaus or the
opera house of Dortmund.
The city is known as Westphalia's "green metropolis". Nearly half the municipal territory consists of waterways, woodland, agriculture and green spaces with spacious parks such as Westfalenpark and Rombergpark.

The cooperation of the Dortmunder Hafen AG with its associated companies Container Terminal Dortmund and Dortmunder Eisenbahn in combination with the forwarding and transshipment agencies located in the port area guarantee a high competence in the transport of bulk commodities, general cargo and containers.

“nordwärts“ project is a 10-year structure project. In this project, based on the
involvement and commitment of civil society, a development strategy is being devised
for the northern districts of the city of Dortmund. The smart city is part of
Citizens, stakeholders, politics and the city’s administration have joined up to discuss ideas and to cultivate needs-oriented projects which are suitable for developing the local area covered by the “nordwärts“ project for the good of the whole city.
The strengths of the administration and the whole of the city’s civil society are being brought together to give the project area innovative impetus.
The project has ensured that many people participate in the main “nordwärts“ project, and in the development of innovative and transferable sub-projects.
The goal of the Smart Service Power project is the intelligent digitalization and linking of the different data sources in order to support the age-appropriate technology-supported housing in the neighborhood.
